February 2008

Attended 'Make a welded sculpture in-a-day' course at Stroud college. Great fun - made 2.

October 2007 - January 2008

Exhibited and sold at 'The Gallery Upstairs' in Henley in Arden in November..

Made some more slate pieces and two drift wood and glass pieces. Found brilliant rapid-curing compound that holds the weight of slate in position (Bolt and Stud Fix STF).

Working on 6ft strung piece and starting a new perspex / steel / stone piece .

July / August / September

Little new work. Made white pots for a client, and ran a very successful Arts and Crafts shop at the Subud Congress at Ascot (August.21st-30th)

June

A very successful Open Studios this year.

APRIL

A month of splitting and cutting slate, learning the nature of different adhesives, finding off cuts of hard wood and acquiring a pillar drill for more accurate drilling and pinning of the slate

I would like to work with much larger pieces but I have to resolve many technical problems first, not least of which is handling the weight.

March

Splitting slate and setting pieces in concrete and grout.

February

Made sculpture in MDF, wood and concrete, concrete cracked - I learnt a lot.

Stopped working on strung piece as I need to practice welding first.

Went to a slate quarry in north Wales and loaded the car up from the reject pile.

January

Stroud Arts Award

I was short listed for the Stroud Arts Award (£20,000) with my first piece.

The 5 short listed sculptures were exhibited at Stroud Subscription Rooms so that public opinion could contribute 1/7 to the decision of the selection committee. I won the public vote but the Award winner was Phil Thompson.
