APRIL
A month of splitting
and cutting slate, learning the nature of different adhesives, finding
off cuts of hard wood and acquiring a pillar drill for more accurate
drilling and pinning of the slate
I would like to work
with much larger pieces but I have to resolve many technical problems
first, not least of which is handling the weight.

March
Splitting
slate and setting pieces in concrete and grout. |

February
Made
sculpture in MDF, wood and concrete, concrete cracked - I learnt
a lot.
Stopped
working on strung piece as I need to practice welding first.
Went
to a slate quarry in north Wales and loaded the car up from the
reject pile. |

January
Stroud
Arts Award
I
was short listed for the Stroud Arts Award (£20,000) with
my first piece.
The
5 short listed sculptures were exhibited at Stroud Subscription
Rooms so that public opinion could contribute 1/7 to the decision
of the selection committee. I won the public vote but the Award
winner was Phil
Thompson.
